HOW TO SEARCH OUR DATABASES


This is a practice search form. Feel free to use it until you are comfortable with searching and then proceed to the actual search forms.

1. SEARCHING WITH A POP-UP MENU

Click in the shadow highlighted box beside "Plant Lifeform" to view the pop-up menu. Select a lifeform by dragging with your mouse down the list until the name of a lifeform is highlighted and let go. The field should now show the name of whatever lifeform you selected.

2. SEARCHING A BLANK FIELD

Type trichocarpa to search for all records with "trichocarpa" in their species name:

3. SEARCHING WITH OPERATORS

The database utilizes the functionality of searches in the FileMaker Pro database application. The following table illustrates how to use Claris FileMaker Pro operators in combination with the data you're searching. The operators can be used in combination. Remember to type these operators directly into the search field:

Empty fields = = (when you type a single equals sign in a text field, the database will find you all of the records with blanks in that field)
